Welcome to Haddon’s Helping Hands.

We are a small group of volunteers living in West Haddon offering practical help and assistance to residents of West Haddon who may not have friends or family close-by to turn to.

We assist with the small things in life that many take for granted until age or illness catches up. Perhaps you suddenly realise that you’re not as confident doing those everyday things and you may not have anyone in the vicinity to ask for help.  Things like moving something into the loft, moving a heavy box, changing a light bulb, bringing a delivery from the doorstep into the house or even opening a jar… Those little things that take a few minutes to do and you’d ask a family member to help with if they were just down the road.

If you don’t have a family member down the road to help – Haddon’s Helping Hands is here for you.

Who We Are

Haddon’s Helping Hands was launched in late 2022 by Andre Zyms.

We are a small group of West Haddon residents who have come together to help anyone in West Haddon who needs a bit of practical help with things around the home.

We are not a handyman or gardening service, but offer help with things that take a few minutes to do, that for some are too hard, too high, unsafe or just simply impossible to do.

All volunteers have been DBS checked and live in West Haddon.

Our volunteers live across the entire village, meaning that help in never far away.  We have volunteers near Morrisons Park Rd, the top of Northampton Rd near to A428 and at the bottom of the Village in Station Rd.

Frequently Asked Questions

Haddon’s Helping Hands is for anyone living in West Haddon who genuinely needs us.  There are no set criteria. Once you register we will talk to you about your needs and reasons for registering.  We reserve the right to refuse assistance if we feel that the service is being used disingenuously.

Haddon’s Helping Hands is run by volunteers and there is no cost for using the service.  We are partly funded by public donations via our GoFundMe page  and partly by our amazing volunteers who have donated more than just their time to the Haddon’s Helping Hands and to you.

Simply complete the basic details on our registration page and one of our volunteers will call you within 72hrs.  We will then follow-up with a very brief home visit to introduce ourselves to you.  This meeting will give you the chance to ask any questions and will allow us to assess your needs and therefore the urgency of any assistance requests.

We can provide help with anything that you are not confident or comfortable doing for yourself that does not need a professional, such as a plumber, builder, carpenter, or gardener.  The simple things that we all take for granted and take a few minutes to do… moving something into the loft, helping you bring in the shopping delivery, moving an item of furniture, changing a light bulb, posting a letter on an icy day.  We will talk to you about our service in more detail once you have registered.

We cover West Haddon only, to the Southern Side of the A428, down Northampton Rd, Guilsborough Rd, Crick Rd/West End down to Foxhill Rd.

Once you register one of our volunteers will call you to talk about your situation and your potential needs.  This means that when you call us for assistance we have a better understanding of your situation and the potential urgency of any assistance you need.

We only provide our assistance phone number to people who have registered.  This is to stop the Haddon’s Helping Hands phone number becoming public and stop us being inundated with calls for assistance from people not known to us.

Yes.  We are not a 24hr service and we are not an emergency service.  We are volunteers with real jobs and families.  The Haddon’s Helping Hands phone will be switched on to accept SMS, WhatsApp and call requests for help between 9am and 7pm each day.  Although we will aim to assist you as soon as humanly possible, you may need to wait for a day or 2 (at most) before one of our volunteers can visit you.  When you contact us we will give you an idea of when one of our volunteers could be with you.

Yes, and if you know ahead of time that you will need help, the more notice you can give us, the better.  If you know there is a heavy parcel arriving on Thursday or you have an extra big shop being delivered on Friday, let us know as far ahead as possible so we can put your requirements into the diary and be there to assist when you need us.

Following registration and the initial meeting, your name, telephone numbers and address will be stored in our group phone.  Only people listed in this phone are able to request assistance.  We will also add any relevant notes to the contact file that will assist us in helping you.  The information will not be shared with anyone outside of the Volunteer group and will be used solely to provide you with assistance as quickly and efficiently as possible.

A back-up of your data will be held on a secure computer by Andre Zyms in case the phone data become corrupted.

Any details of assistance requests will be in strict confidence and will not be discussed outside of Haddon’s Helping Hands.
